South Sudan First VP Riek Machar needs support from Ethiopia

February 25, 2016(GMN) - South Sudan First Vice President Riek Machar called on Ethiopia and IGAD to further consolidate their support for the process of the establishment of a transitional government in South Sudan.

Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on his part said Ethiopia will continue its support for the formation of the transitional government and the prevalence of peace in South Sudan.

The premier and the first vice president have held discussions on Wednesday about the ways of realizing the implementation of the peace agreement.

They have also discussed about ways of enhancing the establishment of a joint army in Juba, following the formation of the transitional government.

Reik Machar said he has finalized preparations to go to Juba and called on Ethiopia, IGAD member states and other countries to consolidate their support.

''I met the PM to inform him about my final preparation to go to Juba. We requested his assistance because the implementation of the agreement is not resourced; there is no fund for its implementation," Machar said.

"It will be IGAD that should have to lead the process of the implementation of this agreement; and he is PM of this country and the chair of IGAD and the chief person in the process of getting the agreement. So there is a lot Ethiopia will have to play in the process,'' he added.

Special Envoy of the Prime Minister, Birhane Gebrekirstos, said Ethiopia will continue its effort to help realize the peace agreement and for the formation of a transitional government in South Sudan.
